Work Health and Safety (Advanced) RPL COURSE OVERVIEW

    About The Certificate

The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) program in (Advanced) Work Health and Safety (WHS) is designed specifically for individuals who hold the WHS role within their organization. These individuals play a crucial role in providing guidance, leadership, and expertise in matters related to workplace health and safety. While they may have limited direct responsibility for the output of others, their influence and oversight are significant in ensuring a safe and compliant work environment.

The qualification obtained through this RPL program signifies the essential knowledge and skills required for roles such as WHS coordinator, advisor, or facilitator within the field. These roles involve not only understanding regulatory requirements and best practices but also implementing strategies, training programs, and risk management processes to promote a culture of safety and well-being in the workplace.

By completing the (Advanced) WHS RPL program, individuals demonstrate their competency in areas such as risk assessment, hazard identification, incident investigation, safety training, and compliance monitoring. This qualification validates their ability to contribute effectively to the health and safety initiatives of their organization, ultimately ensuring a safer and healthier work environment for all employees.

    Scope Of Work

The responsibilities of a WHS (Advanced) worker cover a wide range of tasks aimed at ensuring a safe and healthy work environment. Here are some key responsibilities:

    1. Leading WHS Risk Management: This involves identifying potential hazards, assessing risks, and developing strategies to mitigate these risks. Advanced WHS workers take a proactive approach to risk management, implementing controls and monitoring their effectiveness.
    2. Spearheading Incident Response and Investigation: Advanced WHS workers play a crucial role in responding to WHS incidents promptly and effectively. They lead investigations to determine the root causes of incidents, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
    3. Overseeing WHS Consultation and Participation: They facilitate and promote effective consultation and participation processes related to WHS matters. This includes engaging with workers, WHS representatives, and management to ensure that everyone has a voice in decision-making processes that impact workplace health and safety.
    4. Managing WHS Compliance of Contractors: Advanced WHS workers ensure that contractors working on-site comply with relevant WHS regulations and standards. They may develop and implement contractor management processes, conduct audits, and provide guidance to contractors to maintain a safe working environment.
    5. Implementing and Evaluating Systems for Hazardous Chemicals: They are responsible for developing and implementing safe systems of work for handling hazardous chemicals. This includes conducting risk assessments, providing training on safe handling procedures, maintaining safety data sheets, and evaluating the effectiveness of control measures.

These responsibilities require a deep understanding of WHS principles, regulations, and best practices, as well as strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Advanced WHS workers play a critical role in promoting a culture of safety and continuous improvement within their organization.

    Experience Requirement

To enroll in the (Advanced) Work Health and Safety (WHS) program through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), candidates must meet specific prerequisites. These typically include a minimum of 3 to 4 years of relevant industry experience, which should cover a diverse range of WHS activities. The required experience can be gained from both local and overseas work contexts, providing candidates with a broad perspective on WHS practices.

However, there is a specific requirement for candidates to have a minimum of 12 to 24 months of experience specifically gained within Australia. This local experience is crucial as it ensures that candidates are familiar with Australian WHS regulations, standards, and industry practices, which are essential for effectively managing WHS in an Australian workplace.

By having a combination of local and overseas experience, candidates can demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of WHS principles and practices, making them well-prepared to undertake the (Advanced) WHS program and excel in WHS roles within their organizations.
