    About The Certificate

    The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) program for Joinery certification is crafted to reflect the trade-qualified role of a Joiner actively involved in both residential and commercial projects. This qualification encompasses the skills and knowledge required for individuals in roles such as Joiner or Stair Builder within the field of joinery. The program aims to recognise and assess the proficiency of individuals, ensuring they meet the standards necessary for contributing effectively to joinery projects in both domestic and commercial settings. It is designed to align with industry expectations and equip individuals with the expertise required for success in the field of joinery.

    Scope Of Work

    The responsibilities within the field of Joinery encompass a range of tasks, including but not restricted to:

    1. Operating Computer-Controlled Machinery: Utilizing computer-controlled machinery to fabricate and shape joinery components with precision and accuracy.
    2. Processing Materials: Using static machines such as saws, drills, and routers to process timber and other materials to create joinery components.
    3. Construction Calculations: Performing calculations to determine carpentry material requirements, ensuring accurate estimates for project planning and execution.
    4. Installing Lining, Paneling, and Molding: Installing and finishing various interior elements such as lining boards, wall paneling, and decorative moldings to enhance aesthetics and functionality.
    5. Assembling and Installing Stairs: Fabricating, assembling, and installing stairs, including both internal and external staircases, to meet design specifications and safety standards.
    6. Constructing Composite External Stairs: Building composite external stairs using a combination of materials such as timber, metal, and composites, ensuring durability and weather resistance.
    7. Designing and Setting Out Stairs: Designing stair layouts and setting out the structure according to architectural plans and building codes, ensuring structural integrity and compliance.

    These responsibilities, integral to the Joinery field, highlight the diverse skill set and technical knowledge required for professionals in this role.

    Experience Requirement

    A minimum of 2 to 3 years of relevant industry experience in various carpentry tasks is required, collaborating with a licensed carpenter or builder. This experience should encompass a diverse range of carpentry work, including but not limited to framing, formwork, finishing work, and other aspects of carpentry relevant to residential and commercial construction projects. The required experience can be a combination of both local and overseas work, with a specific requirement of 12 to 24 months gained within Australia.

    Regulatory Licensing Requirement

    According to NSW Fair Trading, tradies applying for a license must have the relevant industry knowledge and experience and have completed:

    • CPC30220 Certificate III in Carpentry or
    • CPC31920 Certificate III in Joinery or
    • CPC30120 Certificate Ill in Shopfitting
